Here’s what Kate writes about this series of prints, 4 of which will be included in this show:
WINTERING OVER: Burrows, Nests & Boles
(Suite of Monotype Collages)
I made this suite of monotype collages during a printmaking residency at the Vermont Studio Center in the winter of 2007. “Wintering Over” is also the title of a poem I wrote during that same retreat. It speaks to our kinship with all creatures and our desire to find those safe burrows, dens, and nests in which to protect and “winter over” that which is essential in us, our creative core. The extreme cold and the constant white of my surroundings was the backdrop for my explorations of warmth and life, grounded in the earth, connected to her fiery center and regenerated every year through seed, egg, idea— a manifestation of what is becoming from that which is hidden, buried, dark.
