As we buckle down for another winter snow storm, I am counting on spring to burst forth soon. I even saw a little mud underneath the snow!
One sign of spring is the abundance of shows – the artwork is as welcome as the flowers. I’ve seen two excellent exhibits at the Maine Jewish Museum – my old sculpture teacher and friend, Deborah Klotz, whom I reconnected with after 9 years at her show, “Traces”. The current show is by Josephina Auslander, the Argentinan-born Portland painter whose graphite drawings and paintings continue to amaze and inspire me. I think of them as “spiritual geometry”. http://www.treeoflifemuseum.org
My work will be appearing in a number of group shows this spring. “Ocean Arabesque” is one of the works on view at UNE Gallery as part of the Peregrine Press Portfolio, one of the “Recent Acquisitions from the Permanent Collections”. The show runs from March 15 – June 15. UNE’s Art Gallery is at 716 Stevens Ave, Portland ME. Their hours are Wed–Sun 1–4 p.m., Thurs till 7pm and by appt. www.une.edu/artgallery
This Friday, another Peregrine Press show,”New Ink”, opens at Engine in Biddeford. My “Ancestral River XI” will be in the show along with a special tribute to DeeDee Schwartz.
