Building Nests at George Marshall Store Gallery

Posted on June 8th, 2013

Well, I’ve built my nest indoors at the George Marshall Store Gallery for the exhibit, “Rachel Carson: The Enduring Legacy.” It’s all there in black and white: the messages inside the eagles’ eggs (Raku-fired with the help of my friend Sharon Townshend) are displayed in contrasting type on the pedestal. Facts about why DDT was bad for eagles contrast with quotes by Rachel Carson, such as..”man is a part of nature, and his war against nature is ultimately a war against himself.” I made the “nest” with blackened forsythia branches, bent and secured without any glue or fasteners. The show opens Saturday, June 8 and runs through July 15. I’m giving an artist talk on 7/7 at 3
